Chapter 1: The Stange Visitor

Story Snippet (1) | POV: Cristin.

The Chandalyns of Crystalys have never known a day of disruption in their lives, the streets remain calm as the scholars begin from their rooms to their designated studies, the soft patter of shoes walking on polished granite, their Aides hovering around them, periodically whispering to them. No word is uttered to the classmate beside them, and none ever would, if it weren’t for the giggling toddlers disregarding their dismayed Aides to prance around outside the nursery.

Yes, the inhabitants of the Amethyst House had never known any different day, and this went for Cristin as well, who had been walking towards his study room, preparing for his day of Language studies, when an abnormally loud jumble of screeches and giggles echoed from the crowd of exasperated toddlers. When did that ever happen? No Aide would ever allow such a sound from the mouth of any Chandalyn, and yet the Aides themselves in all their crystalline glory seemed too distracted themselves to properly deal with the youth. And so it was with one questioning whisper from his Aide, Eed, that Cristin quietly made his way over to the commotion. A deviation from routine, how absurd! Alas, it is how it sounds. Was this deviation worth it, at least? Perhaps, but for the moment, Cristin could simply peer over to see what was happening, to which he produced the most petite but strangled squeak he could, along with the single word.

 “What?”
