The Houses
The six houses are large mansion-esc buildings surrounding the Capital, each one on a different floating island; they are the pillars of Crystalys, as it is where every single youth is housed until 18 Chandalyn years (36 Human years), the time when they will finally enter into society. Each house is focused on specific (and a few miscellaneous) job categories, and a Chandalyn’s crystals will determine which House they will be raised in. The job descriptions for each house is, however, different then the average planet’s probably would be, as Chandalyns rarely need to focus on surviving (not needing to worry about eating or diseases and such, being the only living organisms in their Ecosystem makes things quite easy for them), so most of their jobs are focused specifically on the betterment and perfection of their society and culture.
The House Stereotypes
Due to the fact that all Chandalyns in a certain House never interact with a Chandalyn from another house until they start their life in the Capital, Stereotypes and rumors have been constructed around each based on what is heard happens in each House and how Chandalyns seem to end up by the time they reach the Capital, they are as follows:
THE AMETHYST HOUSE:
The Arts
These individuals are seen as creatively secluded, most jobs they are working toward involve long nights of solitude where they can work without their creative flow and routine being interrupted, they are said to be the most ‘up in their heads’ and is rumored to never speak to anyone except their Aides. Most of their jobs, as all do, involve some level of socializing, but it is strictly business based, and they expect those they are working with not to stray from formalities so they can easily begin their job, they despise those who dawdle and dance around the topic at hand.
THE RUBY HOUSE:
Concept and Design
These individuals are seen as inventive and social, they are group thinkers and debaters, most jobs they are working toward involve creating as a group, as they will make up most of the Capital’s hive minds and inventors. They are rumored to stay up late sharing ideas and often test out student inventions outside the House in the middle of the night. They are seen as the most talkative as establishing connections with coworkers is important to them. They are probably the most loose and excitable you will ever see a Chandalyn get.
THE SAPPHIRE HOUSE:
Preservation and Teaching
These individuals are seen as the most routinely and ordered, they are working towards jobs involving the preservation and development of Crystalys’ history and culture, they are the crystal readers, the law students, and are the Chandalyns most likely to become Caretakers at the houses, meaning some of them will never see the Capital in their lifetime. They are generally seen as the most perfectionistic and easily annoyed out of the Houses, and are rumored, as neighbors to the Ruby House, to host insult contests at them when the Ruby House is up in the middle of the night.
THE EMERALD HOUSE:
Commercial and Trade
These individuals are seen as observant and sly, they are the salesmen and the marketers. Chandalyns from the Emerald house are the most common to see in the Capital, as anyone you see selling things has most always come from the Emerald house, this house is also the most common to be sorted into. They, along with the Ruby house, are the most social, as they are specifically taught how to catch the attention of others, and use it to sell their wares. They are rumored to be able to learn your darkest secrets by simply asking five questions, and contain a never ending supply of gossip; in fact, they are where most drama and stereotypes surrounding the Houses come from.
THE ONYX HOUSE:
Relegation and Order
These individuals are said to be, along with the Diamond House, the hardest to peg. They are seen as the most anti-social and cold hearted out of the Houses, as they deal with everything no one else wants to. This house holds the Capital’s darkest secrets and the inhabitants will often find themselves unable to speak much with any other Chandalyns when they reach the Capital. They are some of the most secluded and disciplined, and a favorite conversation topic at the Emerald House.
THE DIAMOND HOUSE:
Government and Authorities
These individuals are seen as the most reliable and respected of the Houses. The Diamond House is the second most secretive, and most of the inhabitants are preparing themselves for some sort of authoritative job, as such they hold the widest education, but are also very secluded from each other. It is rumored that every once in a while, a few individuals from the other houses will be brought to the Diamond house to develop a student’s authoritative abilities. This is seen as an honor to both parties, but the inhabitants of the Diamond house are often put on a larger pedestal than they can immediately live up to.
